BEHIND THE BLANKET

ABOUT

Behind  the Blanket - the story of Chilcott’s truly 100% British Timeless Blankets from fleece to finish.

Discover Chilcott’s range of sumptuously soft 100% British wool blankets, perfect for year-round use inside and outside the home.  Natural materials, beautiful design and the experience of generations are brought together to create the unique and luxurious Chilcott blankets, a true demonstration of the highly skilled craftsmanship that defines Chilcott.

Each blanket is finished with a bag of Chilcott lavender to ensure that it stays fresh and fragrant. When the lavender bag finally loses its scent, simply post it back to Chilcott and they will replenish it free of charge.

CHILCOTT’S DESIGNER AND FINISHER

From a family who has worked in the wool industry for generations Sarah, Chilcott’s talented designer and finisher, creates the beautiful blankets. Calling on her wealth of experience and design instinct, Sarah not only chooses the unique Chilcott colours and materials that will bring her design to life, she also uses her skills with a needle to create the special pockets of lavender that are sent out with each blanket as Chilcott’s unique signature.

THE WOOL

The best quality wool is selected from the fleeces of Bluefaced Leicester and Romney sheep, produced by British farmers.

THE WOOL DYERS

This 3rd generation team of wool dyers from the beautiful county of Yorkshire, a father and son, work together combing their knowledge and feel for wool, to turn Chilcott’s wool, selected for its soft natural lustre, into the most beautiful cones of wool in just the right shade of colour - the process of making Chilcott’s unique blankets has begun!

THE WEAVERS

At a mill deep in the beautiful countryside of mid-Wales the blankets are brought to life on the weaving looms. Raymond has a lifetime of experience of working with wool which is matched by a keen eye for design enabling him to interpret Sarah’s designs perfectly.

THE SCULPTOR

Phillipine works alongside the banks of the Usk river in Wales. Here, working with locally sourced hardwoods, she is inspired to create beautiful pieces of sculpture, jigsaws and individual commissions. The buttons on a Chilcott blanket are individually turned by hand from oak so each one is unique. Click here to see more of Phillipine work.
