The lavender is changing before our eyes!…
The lavender plants change so quickly from being asleep to growing into full bloom over just a few short months. So much so that we decided to document the process by taking photos every week during June and July of the same two plants. One of which is a mature plant and the other is young.
Over the last 4 weeks, you can see how the new plants have found their feet (or should we say roots!) and are already sending out sprigs of lavender. We planted these by hand on the Jubilee Weekend along with 69 others! Back-breaking works but well worth it. The young ones will take a couple of years to grow and start to yield well.
The older, more mature plants which are 5-6 years old are growing, flowering and changing colour each day. These plants will have a life span of 6-10 years depending on the climate and water flow underground. You may not believe it but the underground water table changes can have a huge effect on lavender and wipe out several rows.
These plants will yield lots of loose lavender for us and will be used in this season's lavender bags. The Grosso lavender we grow holds its fragrance very well and in France, it is mainly used in perfume and for potpourri. The lavender stays fresh for a few years! If you can’t wait to get your hands on some of our lavender, why not pick up a gift set of 3 lavender bags in our Summer colours?
We will be at The Royal Welsh Show from 18-21 July near Builth Wells, Powys. Please do come and visit us there to view our products and hear more about our lavender!
Our lavender used to create a range of natural fragrances, carefully blended and beautifully presented to elegantly complement any home. The best room diffusers use our bespoke blend of fine natural essential oils that will gently fill the room with a natural perfume, with our lavender diffuser being a firm favourite. Discover the whole botanicals range, including room sprays, hand gel and natural dog shampoo.
We also use our lavender to create Scented Bags, attached to our range of British Wool Blankets and Luxury Alpaca Hot Water Bottles. This ensures that each blanket and ‘hottie’ stays beautifully fragranced for years to come.
Don’t forget, when a Chilcott Lavender Bag finally loses its scent, you can simply post it back to Chilcott with a return address, and it’s replenished free of charge!
At Chilcott, sustainability is at the heart of all that we do, from the way we grow our lavender to the wool that we use. Chilcott is a truly British business. We believe we should tread lightly in the world and appreciate what we have around us.
15% from the sale of the products in our Oceans Range goes to support Common Seas' work.
